Price of Xbox One X Confirmed PLus All Other Details Release

With so much time spent on new games today, we were getting a bit worried that Microsoft may not talk about Xbox One X pricing by the end of its show. After all, with a release date to look forward to and a bunch of games on the docket for release, it wouldn’t have surprised us to see Microsoft hold pricing details for a later date. Luckily for us, Microsoft decided to talk money just as the show was coming to a close.

When the Xbox One X launches on November 7, it will be sporting a $499 price tag. That’s right around where we were expecting. $600 seems far too much for a home console – Sony can attest to that, as it was famously lambasted for announcing a $600 price point for the PlayStation 3 back at E3 2005.

On the other hand, the PlayStation 4 Pro is already priced at $400, and considering that the Xbox One X is fair amount more powerful than its 4K competitor, we knew that it would come in higher than that point. Ultimately, Microsoft didn’t have many places to go other than a $499 price point – even at $499, it’s not hard to imagine Microsoft losing money on the console.

The big question now is whether or not the console will sell at that price. Most people who have purchased a console this generation paid $400 or less for them – while the PS4 launched at $399, there was a small window of time where the original Xbox One was available in a single configuration for $499. It doesn’t seem too unfair to wonder if the high price of the Xbox One at least contributed to the fact that it now significantly trails behind the PS4 in terms of total consoles shipped.

We won’t have long to wait before we find out if this console is a hit. The Xbox One X will launch worldwide on November 7, which is now less than five months away. Will you be picking one up?
