This Is What 1500-HP Bugatti Chiron Could Be Looking Like

What you're looking at above was very nearly the face of the Bugatti Chiron, before the current "eight eyes" design was ultimately chosen. Striking, isn't it? Where the production Chiron builds upon the Veyron's design language, this alternate-universe rendering is all about airflow—the whole front end is basically one giant intake.

The design comes from the pen of Sasha Selipanov. He submitted this proposal when he was a designer at the VW Group, and was subsequently hired as Bugatti's chief exterior stylist. Higher-ups at the company didn't like this front-end treatment, though the back and sides remained largely the same from concept to production.

Bugatti also wanted the Chiron to have cameras in place of side-view mirrors, but the idea was nixed over fears that safety regulators wouldn't be too keen on them. Volkswagen experimented with cameras in place of mirrors before with its limited-production XL1, but it seems that this tech isn't quite yet ready for the mainstream.

Ultimately, the "eight eyes" look was probably the right choice for the Chiron. Still, this face would've looked plenty mean looming in your rear-view mirror.
