Darkwood Owners Puts Darkwood game on Pirate Bay for those who can’t pay To Download For Free

While most indie game developers would prefer that players didn’t pirate their titles, the three-person team calling itself Acid Wizard Studio have done things a bit differently. They’ve taken their recently released horror game Darkwood and put it up for free on the popular torrent site Pirate Bay, all without any DRM. The reason? They simply want everyone who’s interested to play their game, even if they can’t afford it.

Released only a week ago to many positive user reviews, Darkwood is only priced at $15 on platforms like Steam, GOG, and the Humble Store. Acid Wizard explained that putting the game on Pirate Bay wasn’t something they planned on doing, but they’re motived by two reasons: to make it available for everyone, and fight back against shady key resellers.

The trio wrote in an Imgur post that they were fed up with people requesting Steam keys for the purpose of reviewing Darkwood, only for them to turn around and sell it on an unauthorized platform. At the same time, they found that the reason behind the majority of players requesting refunds was because they couldn’t afford the game. One person wrote “that he needed the refund because he didn’t want his parents to be stressed out when seeing the bill at the end of the month… well, it made us feel quite bad,” the developer said.

In turn, Acid Wizard says they’ve put the latest version of Darkwood on Pirate Bay to make a safe, stable torrent available for everyone.

“There’s no catch, no added pirate hats for characters or anything like that. We have just one request: if you like Darkwood and want us to continue making games, consider buying it in the future, maybe on a sale, through Steam, GOG or Humble Store.”

“But please, please, don’t buy it through any key reselling site. By doing that, you’re just feeding the cancer that is leeching off this industry.”
