FDA Approved Fitbit Aria 2 WiFi Scale, ‘most accurate’ yet

You’d think that Fitbit would be content with revealing both a brand new smartwatch and a pair of new fitness headphones in one day, but it didn’t stop there. The company also revealed its Aria 2 WiFi scale today, completing this trifecta of new fitness devices. As with the other two devices Fitbit introduced today, pre-orders for the Aria 2 are open now as well.

The Aria 2 doesn’t sound a whole lot different from the original Aria. The name of the game here seems to be improvement, with Fitbit claiming “industry-leading accuracy” with this latest entry. You’ll be able to use the Aria 2 to track changes in your body weight and composition, giving you insight as to whether or not you’re building muscle and burning fat.

Fitbit also promises seamless setup with the Aria 2. The scale will connect to your phone through WiFi and the Fitbit Aria app. Every time you step on the scale, Aria 2 will automatically sync your statistics to the Fitbit app, allowing you to view progress at a glance. The Aria 2 also offers support for up to 8 different users, meaning you only need to buy one scale for your entire household.

The Aria 2 is an FDA-approved health device, and it will launch with a number of interesting features that users might find valuable. You’ll be able to set and track personal goals with daily weigh-ins, and you’ll even find a Community section in the Fitbit app where users can cheer one another on. Fitbit also plans to launch guided health programs, which will offer coaching and courses for an additional subscription fee. The first one, “Kick Your Sugar Habit,” will be launching later this year.

As was the case with the original Aria, the Aria 2 will be compatible with a number of different fitness apps, so you’ll be able to sync data from MyFitnessPal or Habit to have it all in one place. Though the Ionic and Flyer are both slated for a release sometime in October, the Aria 2’s release date is currently a more nebulous “Fall 2017.” When it does finally arrive, it’ll be available in two colors – black and white – and will run $129.95.
