Google Pixel’s Camera Software Can Now Be Install On Other Android Phones (Download It)

The camera on Google’s Pixel quite possibly takes the best photos of an smartphone, Android or otherwise. But it’s not just the hardware like the lens or image stabilization, the Pixel also features software advancements that help make images the best they can be, especially with the phone’s HDR+ mode. But now you don’t need to own a Pixel to get these improvements, as one app developer figured out how to bring the software to a number of other Android devices.

Shared with XDA, the developer B-S-G was able to modify the Google Camera app from the Pixel, which includes the HDR+ image processing software, and got it to work on any phone that uses a Snapdragon 820, 821, or 835 processor. This not only includes the new Samsung Galaxy S8, but the LG G6, OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, and OnePlus 5 as well.

The software is still a little buggy at times, and users may find their photos are perfectly on par with the Pixel’s, but it’s been proven to make a difference, especially in situations with bright highlights or dark shadows, where HDR works best. XDA has also verified that the app is safe and doesn’t contain any malicious code.

Users can install it at their own discretion knowing that it’s unlikely to cause any real harm. And for those really curious if it will improve their photos, it’s probably worth a shot, just don’t wait too long as non-Google-approved mods often don’t last long.
