Twitter Has Suspended Blue Tick Verification For Accounts

Twitter, the favorite social network for microblogging, has just announced the temporary suspension of its account verification process, due to the strong controversies arising from verifying the profile of Jason Kessler, a white supremacist involved in the violent events in Charlottesville.

Twitter temporarily suspends account verification

If there is one thing that Twitter wants to improve, it is its level of trust with users, in terms of the way in which it manages hate and violent extremism on the platform.
It takes a lot of effort to make this happen, since this has been one of the biggest responsible for the massive flight of users, after several events involving trolls, such as the decision of the daughter of Robin Williams to close its account for offenses received from several users.
That is why, one of the great reasons why the social network created the system of account verification was to authenticate the identity and voice of prominent users, thus avoiding identity theft.
However, over the years, this process was also reaching other users and, in the words of the same company, its goal ended up being interpreted as an indicator of approval or importance.
Now, as highlighted by CNET, this process comes to a halt until those responsible are able to redefine it. This has been expressed by the profile of Twitter Support, by announcing that general verifications have been suspended until the process is resolved and redefined.
Indeed, disputes over the verification system have arisen after several users complained that the company verified the account of Jason Kessler, the white supremacist behind the Charlottesville protests.
The account verification system was activated to the general public in mid-2016. In the beginning, it turned out to be tedious, until it improved its process and became more transparent, as long as the profile had certain characteristics.
Today, after criticism, the company has the opportunity to solve and adapt this system, improving again the confidence of users, one of the values and resources that the social platform is currently needing most.
